Week 1: Getting started

January 13th to January 19th

This week will help us get to know each other and become familiar with basic communication tools we will use all along this session. Please, follow the instructions to complete each task.

In this activity, you are going to become familiar with web tools we are going to be using all along this session. To do that, go to the Tool column and:

1. click on each link and sign up. If you already have accounts for these web tools, you will be half-way through the tasks for this week. :)

2. play around a bit and get ready to use them during this session.

***Glogster EDU. You can sign in with your Google Account.

To get to know each other this week, you are going to create a glog in GLOGSTER. Here's what you should do:

1. Go to Glogster EDU and create an account. You can also sign in with your Google account.

2. Create a poster about yourself by adding photos, images, text and videos that reflect who you are as a person and teacher. Do not add any sound yet! We will go back to this poster during week 2 and add an audio file. Follow these examples: Miguel's glog.

Note: Adding, editing and viewing your glog can be a breeze or a bit slow depending on your connectivity. If it is a slow one, try not to add that many pictures or video links. Also, try to keep very few pages open when using Glogster Edu.

This tutorial will help you do this task:

Note: This tutorial was recorded using Glogster. Features to create glogs are the same in Glogster Edu, though.

3. Share your poster. To do that:

3.1.Write your name and paste the glog URL in YOUR GLOG Google Doc.

3.2. Write in the "Comment" column about your colleagues' glogs (Choose at least two them).

In online sessions like EVO, it is always important to know where participants are from. For the Podcasting for the ESL-EFL in the Classroom session, all moderators are from Venezuela (Miguel Mendoza, Evelyn Izquierdo, Miguel Pérez, and Yuly Asención). What about you?

1. Go to the Podcasting for the ESL-EFL Classroom Session blog home page.
2. Scroll down until you get to the Guest Map.
3. Add your name to the map. Follow this tutorial.

How much do you know about podcasting? Let us know by taking this survey.

1. Go to this Survey.
2. Answer each question.

We will be sharing results in our first Wiziq synchronous session.

We would like to know what you expect from this session. Let us know by recording your expectations in Voxopop.

1. Go to Voxopop and record your expectations. Follow the steps below.
Note: since Java in Voxopop has been giving recording problems to participants, we have created a document for you to share your expectations. Click here to go to this document.

Most of us know one or two podcast directories or websites, even though we may have never recorded any audio file so far. If you don't any it is sure you will find some by doing a quick search in Google. Please, share the ones you know or found with us!

1. Go to the Google Form Podcast directories / websites.

2. Read the question and fill in the form.

Note: On your right, you can see the podcast directories you shared. We divided them into ESL-EFL podcasts and Authentic Podcasts.

  • signed up and explored web tools made your poster presentation

  1. Hi, I think one of the links provided took me to a Voxopop of a previous session. That´s where I made my recording. I tried to record on the thread initiated by Mauricio today but I couldn´t.

  2. You were right, Julio. Our sincere apologies. The link was already corrected. Thank you!
